Most people aren’t born with a perfect smile. Over time, our teeth can develop cavities, chips, cracks, or stains that can detract from our appearance and impact our oral health. At Dr. Fairfax & Associates Family Dentistry, we offer customized dental crowns to match each patient’s one-of-a-kind smile.

What Issues Can Dental Crowns Fix?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over the entirety of a natural tooth. Dentists can make crowns from metal, all-porcelain or all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal, all-resin, and pressed ceramic. Our dental office in Fairfax offers ceramic dental crowns and same-day CEREC crowns to our patients.

Dental crowns can restore a natural tooth’s shape, size, and strength by:

  • Protecting a weak or decayed tooth
  • Holding together a crumbling or cracked tooth
  • Restoring a decayed, broken, or worn tooth
  • Covering and supporting a tooth with a sizable filling
  • Securing a dental bridge
  • Topping a dental implant
  • Concealing a misshapen or discolored tooth
  • Strengthening a treated tooth (e.g., a root-canaled tooth)

What Is a Same-Day CEREC Crown in Fairfax?

Same-day CEREC crowns are designed and fabricated on-site at our Fairfax dental office. Using CAD/CAM technology, your dentist creates a custom crown that seamlessly matches your smile. We then use innovative software to fabricate the crown and mill the final prosthesis right here at Dr. Fairfax & Associates Family Dentistry. You can receive a new and improved smile in a single dental appointment with a stunning and functional custom crown.

How Do You Place a Dental Crown?

We start by reviewing the patient’s oral health and medical histories and performing a thorough dental examination. Your dentist also discusses with you your smile goals and any concerns you may have about your tooth.

Your dentist then ensures you are comfortable before they prepare and shape the natural tooth to ensure a perfect fit for the crown.

Once we prepare the tooth, we design the custom crown and send the design to our milling machine. When the final crown is complete, we use dental cement to secure it over your tooth. Finally, we polish the crown and make sure your bite is aligned and comfortable.
