Your child's oral health is at the top of your list of priorities, and finding the right dentist to work with is so important for creating positive dental experiences and successful future appointments. Dr. Cerina Fairfax is your premiere children's dentist in Fairfax, VA, and best of all the entire family can see her so you won't have to waste your valuable time driving from appointment to appointment. Here are some common questions about children's dentistry we often hear.

At What Age Should My Child First Visit the Dentist?

Your child's teeth will typically begin to arrive around the age of 6-8 months old. Dr. Fairfax likes to see children as soon as those first teeth arrive, and no later than their first birthday. Our first visits will be spent helping your child acclimate to our office and feel comfortable with the instruments we use. Dr. Fairfax will count and examine your child's teeth and make you aware of any developmental issues she sees. As your child gets older we'll incorporate a cleaning into their appointment.

When Should I Start Brushing My Baby's Teeth?

Ideally, you should begin brushing your child's teeth as soon as they arrive. Not only does it keep their teeth clean, it acclimates them to brushing and sets them up for successful brushing on their own in the future.

What Can I Do at Home for My Child's Oral Health?

Leading by example is a great way for you to show your child how to maintain optimum oral health. Let them watch you brush and floss your own teeth so they can learn how to do it too and feel comfortable doing it. You will need to assist your child with brushing and flossing until around the age of 6-8 years old. We also encourage parents to bring their little ones along to their own cleaning and checkup appointments, which also helps them acclimate to our office.
